Psychoanalysis was developed by Dr. Sigmund Freud in the 1900s and remains a major discovery today.<\/p>\n

It is essentially based on the spoken word, and involves the analysis of behaviours, situations, symptoms and thoughts experienced by the analysand.<\/p>\n

The aim is to \u201crelease\u201d repressed information from the unconscious, whose function is to protect us from anything unacceptable to our conscious mind.<\/p>\n

Any element identified as too anxiety-provoking (unacceptable) for the conscious mind is immediately removed from the field of consciousness by repression.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The unconscious is an archive containing all our repressed elements from our gestation period, as well as information repressed by our ancestors, passed on by our parents, great-grandparents, etc., which influence our destiny.<\/p>\n

The method requires the subject to lie down for 45 minutes; during this time, the patient is free to evoke whatever he or she wishes, regardless of the subject - this is called \u201cfree association\u201d.<\/p>\n

The reclining position helps release repressed information, bringing down control defenses.
\nIn this posture, the unconscious is like a bottle lying uncorked, gradually pouring out some hidden elements and enabling the patient and analyst to grasp material to be exploited.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The frequency of sessions is set at one per week for serious and effective work.<\/p>\n

If sessions are more than a week apart, the unconscious again builds up defense mechanisms that make it difficult to access information; this lengthens analysis time enormously and becomes ineffective.<\/p>\n

We are all the son or daughter of, the wife or husband of, the mother or father of, the brother or sister of, the uncle or aunt, the godfather, godmother, employee, boss, neighbor etc....
\nAll these roles we have to take on one after the other, sometimes wearing several hats at the same time, which require incredible mental gymnastics and are especially exhausting when the roles are taken on and\/or not assumed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Psychoanalysis makes it possible to become aware of the origin of symptoms, and sometimes to resolve them.<\/strong><\/em>
\nThe aim is not healing, but rather understanding.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

To heal, awareness alone is not enough: we must also accept this origin, integrate it and then overcome it.<\/p>\n

Other therapeutic tools allow greater access to the unconscious, to finalize the work done in analysis, to accept and overcome the symptom and finally reach resolution.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>
